Emma Master receives grant from Genome Canada’s 2015 Large-Scale Applied Research Project Competition

The research project entitled, SYNBIOMICS: Functional genomics and techno-economic models for advanced biopolymer synthesis, which Professor Emma Master co-leads with Harry Brumer of UBC, is one of 13 winning projects from Genome Canada’s 2015 Large-Scale Applied Research Project Competition. A great week for Molly Shoichet

This week on December 5, Molly Shoichet was named the 2017 winner of the Kalev Pugi Award by the Chemical Institute of Canada (CIC)/Society for Chemical Industry (SCI). Also in this week, Shoichet was featured on TVO’s The Agenda on December 6, and gave a high-profiled lecture at Waterloo’s Perimeter Institute on December 7. Both discussions focused on regenerative medicine and the role it will play on our health. Read full story.

Alum thanks ChemE for support after husband released from Egyptian prison, reunited with family

Sarah Attia (ChemE MASc 0T5) and her husband Khaled Al-Qazzaz (MIE MASc 0T3) recently visited the Department of Chemical Engineering & Applied Chemistry to thank the Department for its support. This past summer, Al-Qazzaz was reunited with Attia and their four children after he spent three years trapped in Egypt. Read full story.

REMINDER: CEGSA's annual Holiday Lunch on Wed, Dec 14

REMINDER: Bill Dowkes announces 500 for 50k Challenge

Devoted alumnus Bill Dowkes (ChemE 6T2) recently confirmed that he will provide the Department with $50,000 for ChemE student scholarships if we can generate 500 monetary gifts from alumni, staff and faculty by December 31, 2016.
