Join us in WB116 from 12-1pm on Wednesday, October 5 for LLE's very first 2016-17 lecture. Mary Lidstrom from the University of Washington will be giving a talk entitled, Bioconversion of Methane by Anaerobic Methanotrophic Bacteria.
U of T researchers establish new consortium studying environmental impacts on public health
With more than 80 per cent of Canada’s population living in cities and globally more people move into urban locales, there is an urgent need to learn how to design and modify cities to improve – not degrade – public health. So University of Toronto researchers have established the Canadian Urban Environmental Health Research Consortium (CANUE), made up of more than 80 environmental health experts in academia, government, NGOs and the private sector, who will work together on an urban health research program to improve understanding of how cities can evolve to optimize health. The consortium is led by Jeffrey Brook, a Principal Investigator at SOCAAR. Read full story.
Looking to get rid of old books?
The Department is collecting old chemical engineering books to ship over to the University of the West Indies. If you have books that you'd like to contribute, please let Paul (paul.jowlabar@utoronto.ca) know and he will make arrangements with you for pick-up. Below are details regarding the collection:
- Mostly used books, but new is ok too.
- All text books must be at the undergraduate level.
- Mostly chemical engineering books, but other related subjects welcome.
- Books are for library purposes only. They will not be sold and/or given to individuals.
- The Department will absorb the cost for shipping to port from Toronto to Trinidad.
- We expect written acknowledgement from the Dean once the books have been received.
