Milica Radisic named Fellow of RSC

Professor Milica Radisic (IBBME/ChemE) has been elected fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) on the basis of her exceptional contributions to functional cardiovascular tissue engineering. Read full story.

Irving O. Shoichet Distinguished Lecture on Wed, Sept 20

The Lectures at the Leading Edge (LLE) series kicks-off on Wednesday, September 20 with the Irving O. Shoichet Distinguished Lecture at 12:10pm in WB116. This year's Distinguished Lecturer is Frances Arnold who is the Dick and Barbara Dickinson Professor of Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering and Biochemistry at Caltech. Come and hear her give a talk entitled, Innovation by Evolution: Brining New Chemistry to Life.

TA training session on Tues, Sept 12

Special talk on Thur, Sept 14

Donald R. Sadoway is the John F. Elliott Professor of Materials Chemistry from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at MIT. He will be giving the AIST John F. Elliott Lecture on Thursday, September 14 from 3-4pm in GB119. His talk is entitled, Electrochemical Pathways Towards Sustainable Metals Extraction. Special talk on Thur, Sept 21

On Thursday, September 21 from 5-6pm in SF1105, Maxim Antipin and Saif Abid -- co-founders of SwiftPad, a company that delivers mobile and web applications for healthcare -- will be giving a talk as part of ECE's Engineering Entrepreneurship Series. The talk is followed by an informal dinner with the speakers in SFB560. Please RSVP here if you wish to attend the dinner. You do not have to RSVP for the talk.

Special lecture, Tue, Sep 12

Dr. Morton Barlaz, Distinguished University Professor and Head of the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at North Carolina State University will be giving a special seminar entitled, A Model to Describe Heat Generation and Accumulation in Solid Waste Landfills. The seminar will take place on Tuesday, September 12 from 3-4pm in WB407.

WEAO workshop on personal branding, Thu, Sep 14

The Water Environment Association of Ontario (WEAO) invites you to an informative soft-skills workshop on Thursday, September 14 from 6-9pm in room 2101 of the Sid Smith Building. The workshop’s goal is to help participants establish their own personal brand and learn how it can be used to kick-start or grow their career. This workshop is ideal for grad students about to enter the workforce. Registration is $15 + HST. Space is limited so register online asap if you’re interested. Refreshments will be provided.

Special seminar with alum/pop culture phenom, Mon, Sep 25

You are invited to a thought-provoking and inspiring talk on Monday, September 25 from 5:30-6:30pm in MC102 followed by a reception in GB202. The talk will be given by author and pop culture phenom Jonny Sun (EngSci 1T1 + PEY), best known by his Twitter alias: “jomny sun, aliebn confuesed abot humamn lamgauge." Find out why Time magazine selected Sun as one of the “25 Most Influential People on the Internet.” Sun will discuss how his short-form writing project on Twitter became a critically acclaimed book and how his time at U of T Engineering was formative to his creative and personal development.
