Tiny Particles, Big Emitters

ChemE Professor Greg Evans, his research team at SOCAAR and collaborators at Ontario's environment ministry are uncovering the links between air pollution caused by road vehicles and human health. In Toronto, traffic pollution is responsible for about one quarter of all premature deaths -- almost 300 per year. The team has found that a small percentage of vehicles on city roads accounts for almost half of harmful emissions, and has created a map showing particulate pollution near Toronto roadways.

View the map and read more about this work in a recent issue of the Globe & Mail.

Career Information Days (CID) 2014

Career Information Days (CID) is the University of Toronto’s largest annual career fair for students. Admission is restricted to University of Toronto students and recent graduates. The event is a great opportunity for students to meet with representatives from over 100 top organizations.

Tuesday, Sept 16, 2014 – Arts & Science
Wednesday, Sept 17, 2014 – Engineering & Computer Science
Thursday, Sept 18, 2014 – Engineering & Computer Science

Time: 11am to 3pm
Location: University College, 15 King’s College Circle, University of Toronto
Students only need their student ID to access the fair; registration is not required.

As of September 8, 2014, students can view the list of CID participating companies at the U of T Career Learning Network (CLN). The Engineering Career Centre will offer “Networking at a Career Fair” sessions in preparation for the CID fair; check the Engineering Career Centre events calendar for the dates.

Occupational Health & Safety - New Regulation

All University of Toronto employees, including senior management, academic administrators, faculty members, managers, supervisors, staff-appointed and casual employees, are now required by law to take basic occupational health and safety awareness training according to a new Ontario regulation that took effect on July 1, 2014.

In order to comply with the regulation, faculty and staff are asked to complete the online training session before September 26. Please ensure that a copy of your certificate of completion is sent to Leticia Gutierrez at leticia.gutierrez@utoronto.ca or provide a hard copy to her in WB217.
