Recent student achievements

Congratulations to Chenbo (Sophie) Xu, a 4th-year summer student supervised by Professor Vlad Papangelakis, for winning first prize for best poster presentation in the Chemical Engineering category during UnERD 2017.

The following students, also supervised by Professor Papangelakis, received awards/scholarships from the Hydrometallurgy Section of the Metallurgy and Materials Society (MetSoc) of the Canadian Institute of Mining and Petroleum (CIM):

  • Chenbo (Sophie) Xu (4th- year summer student): Hydrometallurgy Undergraduate Scholarship ($2,500)
  • Eric Shum (MASc 2nd year): 2017 Ernest Peters Master's Award for his thesis project of natural freezing/melting technology for water recovery from industrial inorganic effluents ($3,000)
  • Sahar Ayaz (4th-year thesis student): Lucy Rosato Undergraduate Scholarship in Science and Engineering ($5,000)

First-year orientation

If you are a faculty or staff member who registered for first-year orientation events on Wednesday, September 6, just a quick reminder that the intro session will take place in WB116 from 12-12:30pm and lunch in WB238 (undergrad common room) from 12:30-2pm. If you are a faculty or staff member who would like to attend one or both of these events but have yet to register, please accept the calendar invites sent to you on Monday, August 14.

Training for 4th-year students and new grad students/researchers

Training will take place on Tuesday, September 5 from 9:10am to 12pm in WB116. Please click on the relevant link below for more info:

Safety training for new admin staff

All new admin staff must complete safety training courses. Please visit, http://healthandsafety.chem-eng.utoronto.ca/ and click on "New Administrative Staff" to complete all the required courses. Upon completion of all requirements, submit the confirmation to Gelareh at gelareh.bankian.tabrizi@utoronto.ca. If you have any questions, please contact Gelareh.
