Molly Shoichet Recognized with TERMIS Senior Scientist Award

ShoichetCongratulations to Professor Molly Shoichet (ChemE, IBBME) who is the recipient of the 2014 TERMIS Senior Scientist award from the Tissue Engineering International & Regenerative Medicine Society – Americas (TERMIS-AM). This award recognizes her significant contributions to the field of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.

Professor Shoichet is a world-renowned leader in the development of therapeutic medical treatments that use advanced polymers to solve tough medical problems. She and her multidisciplinary research team are working on wide-ranging topics from cancer treatment to spinal cord injuries to stem cell therapy for treating blindness.

ChemE Students Win CSChE Award

Congratulations to the U of T Student Chapter of the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering (CSChE) for winning the 2014 CSChE Student Chapter Merit Award for their extensive and original programming for undergraduate students. The group is run by ChemE students and is an integral part of student life in our department. The award their work in initiating the new Chem-connect mentorship program, creating a PEY student database, and putting on over 20 events with record-breaking attendance.

New NSERC CREATE Program Will Clean Up

ChemE Professors Edgar Acosta and Elizabeth Edwards are part of the new NSERC Remediation Education Network (RENEW), which was recently established with funding from NSERC's Collaborative Research and Training Experience (CREATE) program. The network, led by CivE Chair Brent Sleep, will support interdisciplinary student training and research in environmental remediation.

It's that time again! The Department will be hosting it's annual First Year Orientation Lunch on Wednesday, September 3. U of T Administrative Staff Awards - Call for Nominations

Every year, U of T recognizes administrative staff who have made outstanding contributions toward advancing the University's strategic objectives with the Excellence Through Innovation Award (ETIA). The call for nominations is now open, with a deadline of Wednesday, Sept 24, 2014. This year the awards include new criteria and focus areas. Complete details of the program, including nomination forms, are available on the ‘Awards & Recognition’ section of the Human Resources & Equity site.
