CSChE Summer Student Symposium needs help of PROFESSORS
The CSChE Summer Student Symposium will be taking place on Tuesday, August 16 at 2pm.
The symposium is a competitive event where students conducting summer research will have the opportunity to present their projects to professors, other faculty members and their peers.
Students can participate in one of two competitions:
- Reg Friesen Oral Presentation, in which students present a topic related to chemical engineering education; or
- Robert. G. Auld Student Paper Competition, in which students present a topic pertaining to chemical engineering research.
The two winners (one from each competition) will be subsidized to attend the 65th annual CSChE conference taking place in Quebec City, in mid-October and will represent the University of Toronto at the national
Reg Friesen Oral Paper Award or Robert G. Auld Student Paper competition.
If you have students doing research for you this summer, please encourage them to participate in the symposium. Also, if you are also interested in being a judge, please contact Kayla Musalem at csche@g.skule.ca at your earliest convenience.
Alumnus Boyang Zhang a rising star of medtech
MDDI Online has named Boyang Zhang (PhD 1T4) as a rising star in the medical technology sector. Zhang worked on the AngioChip as part of his PhD studies in the Chemical Engineering department at U of T. The chip offers a way to vascularize tissue with a permeable, mechanically stable polymer vascular bed. Zhang is currently part of a team of researchers hand building AngioChip platforms, which have potential to be used for drug discovery and regenerative medicine. He explained, “Engineering vascular networks within a functional tissue is essential to achieve high fidelity organ-on-a-chip models on the micro-scale as well as for the clinical success of solid tissue replacements on the macro-scale.” Read full story.
