Levente Diosady Wins Prestigious Food Science Award

During the 12th International Congress on Engineering and Food (ICEF 12) held from June 14-18, Professor Levente Diosady was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Academy of Food Science and Technology. Only 46 of these awards have been given out since its inception.

ChemE Profs Receive ORF Funding

This week, U of T Engineering received $16.9 million from the Government of Ontario to advance 13 innovative research projects. Awarded through the Ontario Research Fund (ORF), two ChemE professors will receive funding to further their projects.

  • Gisele Azimi (ChemE, MSE) – Extraction, Processing, and Recycling of Strategic Materials ($115,214)
  • Elodie Passeport (ChemE, CivE) – Stable Isotope Facility for Improved Understanding of the Fate and Removal of Emerging Contaminants in Water ($200,000)

Spring Convocation 2015

BizSkule Panel Says Emotional Intelligence is Key to Effective Leadership

Effective leaders need to be tactical, analytical and empathetic - three traits emphasized by a panel of business executives at BizSkule’s From Crisis to Opportunity: Leadership for Challenging Times.

On May 27, Claudio D’Ambrosio (ChemE 7T9), Constantine Karayannopoulos (ChemE 8T3, MASc 8T8) and Ted Maulucci (MechE 8T9), painted a vivid picture of the high-stakes pressures of leadership for a gathering of alumni, faculty and students at Bennett Jones’ law office in Toronto’s First Canadian Place. Professor Aritomo Yamaguchi from the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Japan will speak about Synthesis of Valuable Chemicals from Nonedible Plant on Monday, June 22 at 11am in WB215. June 22, 2pm: Special Talk on Process Engineering Evolution and Innovations

Professor Xiao Dong Chen from the School of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Engineering, Soochow University, Suzhou, China will speak about how chemical process engineering has evolved based on the challenges of modern industrialization and sustainable developments. The talk will take place on Monday, June 22 at 2pm in WB407.
