Graeme Norval receives Hart Teaching Innovation Professorship

Six U of T Engineering faculty members have been named the inaugural Hart Teaching Innovation Professors, including Graeme Norval, Associate Professor, Teaching Stream from our Department. Read full story.

Nine ChemE professors named TEAL Fellows

The Faculty created the TEAL Fellows Program to develop a community of practice of faculty interested in developing active learning approaches in the design and/or redesign of undergraduate and graduate courses, and where applicable, leveraging the use of the Faculty’s new state-of-the-art teaching facilities in the CEIE building. Twenty-four professors across the Faculty have been named inaugural TEAL Fellows (2-year term). Out of this group, nine come from the Department of Chemical Engineering & Applied Chemistry. Congratulations to Professors Tim Bender, Erin Bobicki, Will Cluett, Greg Evans, Jennifer Farmer, Ramin Farnood, Alison McGuigan, Graeme Norval and Elodie Passeport. Designing the engineer of 2050: Canadian engineering educators to meet in Toronto

Leading engineering educators will converge at U of T Engineering from Sunday, June 4 to Wednesday, June 7 for a major national conference organized around a single urgent question: How can we prepare the next generation of engineering leaders to address critical challenges that will face society 30 years in the future? “We wanted to move people outside of their normal comfort zone, to provoke them to think in ways that would be radically different,” says Prof. Greg Evans who is co-chairing the Canadian Engineering Education Association Conference with Prof. Lisa Romkey (EngSci). olga misicA new ambassador and role model for women in engineering has joined the illustrious list of Canadian Engineering Memorial Foundation scholarship recipients. The Foundation is proud to announce that Olga Misic (ChemE 1T9) is the recipient of the CEMF Rona Hatt Chemical Engineering Ambassador Award. Read full story.

Pearson scholar joins ChemE

pearson scholarThis fall, Deborah Emilia Solomon, a student from India and a recipient of the Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship, will join our Department as a first-year student. Named after Canada’s 14th prime minister, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and U of T graduate Lester Bowles Pearson, the scholarship recognizes exceptional academic achievement, creativity, leadership potential and community involvement. It covers tuition, books, incidental fees and residence costs for four years. Read full story.

Preparing the next generation of engineering leaders to grow Africa’s megacities sustainably

A new U of T initiative involving several members from the Faculty, including Prof. Greg Evans, will offer scalable online education in partnership with universities in Mauritius, South Africa, Zambia and others. Read full story.
