Prof. Will Cluett receives highest U of T teaching honour

Will CluettProfessor Will Cluett has been recognized for his exceptional teaching and leadership with the President’s Teaching Award, U of T’s highest honour for teaching. This award was established in 2006 to recognize sustained excellence in teaching, research on teaching and the integration of teaching and research. Recipients are designated members of the University’s Teaching Academy for a five-year term. Read more.

Mining your phone: Recovering rare earth elements from e-waste

A retired smartphone languishing in a drawer may seem nearly worthless, but from a material point of view, it’s a gold mine. Professor Gisele Azimi and her team are developing new methods for recovering strategic materials — including rare earth elements — from disused electronics and other forms of waste. Read more.

Plunge a Prof will take place on Wed, Jun 20!

May was faculty & staff giving month. Every U of T Engineering faculty and staff member who donated $20 or more before Thursday, May 31 will be invited to “Plunge a Professor” in a dunk tank. Five faculty members (including Professor and Chair Grant Allen) have agreed to take the plunge. Save Wednesday, June 20 from 11am to 3pm in your calendar to participate/witness this fun event! If you didn't get a chance to donate and would like to, you can still donate online, by phone (416-946-0204) or in person at the Engineering Advancement Office (GB116). You can also donate at the Faculty & Staff Giving Campaign Celebration – $20 minimum per ball, or sign-up as a monthly donor or join the Skule™ Society for a bonus ball.

Acting Chair

Professor Krishna Mahadevan will serve as Acting Chair today. Professor Tim Bender will serve as Acting Chair on Friday, June 22.

CEGSA's new vending machine

If you haven't seen it yet, there is now a snack vending machine by WB247! Keep yourselves fueled during the day with reasonably priced snacks with a percentage of the profits going toward CEGSA events. Chocolate, chips, candy, protein bars, and more are available. Not finding what you like? You can now vote for what snacks you want in the machine! Snacks with the most votes will be stocked. Follow these steps:

Dr. Nigel Guilford (ChemE PhD 1T7) from Guilford and Associates Inc. will be giving a talk entitled, Solid Waste Management: Engineers, Garbage, Public Policy, and Economics. The talk will take place on Tuesday, June 5 from 11am to 12pm in WB215.
