ChemE project earns support from Medicine by Design

Six U of T Engineering researchers, including Prof. Krishna Mahadevan, are among nine teams awarded $1.2 million in funding from Medicine by Design to support critical new ideas in regenerative medicine. Read more.

SOCAAR teams up with the City of Oshawa on air quality and traffic monitoring project

The Southern Ontario Centre for Atmospheric Aerosol Research (SOCAAR) is teaming up with the City of Oshawa to launch a one-year TeachingCity research study that will monitor air quality and traffic movements in Oshawa’s downtown core. A.U.G. Signals Ltd., and North Line Canada are also part of the project team. Read more.

Erin Bobicki searches for a cleaner solution to crushing rocks

Prof. Erin Bobicki is leading a team to compete in the Crush It! Challenge, a competition launched by Natural Resources Canada to develop innovative solutions to reduce the energy used for crushing and grinding rocks in the mining industry. Her team, CanMicro, has just been named one of six finalists in the competition, receiving $800,000 in funding to pursue their solution. Read more.

BioZone Seminar on Fri, May 24

On Friday, May 24 from 2-3pm in WB219, Associate Professor John Dueber from the University of California, Berkeley will be giving a talk, as part of the BioZone Seminar Series, entitled CRISPR-guided DNA Polymerase enabling diversification of all nucleotides in a tunable window.

NSERC summer job

Graduate students or recent graduates (MSc/MASc/PhD) are invited to apply for a temporary (3-12 months) junior researcher position at the National Research Council of Canada starting summer 2019 in Ottawa. The position will focus on the development of a state-of-the-art laser-based interferometry system for the measurement of climate-forcing air pollutants. The student will be involved in further developing an existing system, in terms of one or more of: data acquisition (LabView based), signal processing, instrument design, optics, aerosol sampling and conditioning. Ideal candidates will have prior experience in one of these topics and training will be provided where necessary. Enquiries and applications (CV, transcripts, and a brief cover letter) should be sent to Joel.Corbin@nrc-cnrc.gc.ca. The salary will be commensurate with experience in the range $52,854 to $68,567.

  • Summer Intramural - Softball & Ultimate Frisbee: Depending on numbers, CEGSA will have recreational Softball AND Ultimate Frisbee Intramural Teams this summer, no experience required!
