Award-Winning Leadership Training

ILead - Blizzard AwardCongratulations to the entire team at the Institute for Leadership Eduction in Engineering (ILead), whose unique and innovative training program has won the prestigious Alan Blizzard Award for Collaborative Training. The award recognizes the institute for integrating leadership education into U of T's Engineering experience and providing students the opportunity to gain non-technical skills that are crucial to career and personal development.

ILead's team includes ChemE Professors Doug Reeve (founding director), Greg Evans, David Colcleugh and Alison McGuigan, and ChemE External Relations Liaison Cecilia Konney. Read more about their work and the award here.

 

Spring Convocation 2014:
Faculty & Staff Registration Deadline is Tuesday, May 20!

The Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry will celebrate the convocation of our graduate and undergraduate students in the morning of Wednesday, June 18. Faculty and staff are invited to participate in the following events to mark this special occasion:

  • Academic Procession (Gathers at 9:30 am) -- REGISTRATION DEADLINE TUESDAY, MAY 20
    Location: Council Chamber, Simcoe Hall, 27 King’s College Road
    Complete the hood and gown rental form AND register online for the academic procession. (After May 20 it will be your individual responsibility to obtain the proper attire. Staff and faculty must wear academic regalia to participate.)

  • Convocation Ceremony (10:00 am – 12:00 pm)
    Location: Convocation Hall, 27 King’s College Circle

  • ChemE Reception & Chair's Remarks (12:00 pm – 12:40 pm)
    Location: Sir Howard Ferguson Dining Hall, University College, 75 St. George St. Please register for the Reception by Monday, June 2.

  • FASE Reception (12:00 pm - 2:00 pm)
    Location: Hart House Quad, 7 Hart House Circle

Last Call for Nominations - 2014 Student Life Catalyst Awards

The Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry is now accepting nominations for the Student Life Catalyst Awards, sponsored by the Department's faculty and staff. Nominations can be made by any member of the Chemical Engineering community - students, faculty, staff and alumni. To be eligible, the nominee must be eligible to graduate at spring convocation (spring or fall for graduate students). For more information on the awards and the nomination and selection process, visit the instructions page.

The application deadline is Friday May 23, 2014 at noon in the Chair's Office (WB221).

CEGSA Semi-Formal: Tickets Now On Sale!

Students, Staff and Faculty are cordially invited to attend CEGSA's 3rd Annual Semi-Formal on Friday, June 6, 2014. Come eat and dance the night away in the Music Room & Debate Room at the Hart House starting at 6 pm. Tickets are on sale in the Graduate Common Room during FIKA (2:30 - 3:30 pm, WB 247). The the first 25 tickets will be $55, after which the price goes up to $60. Don't delay as the number of tickets will be capped at 65! If you are unable to purchase your ticket during FIKA, please email cegsa.chemeng@utoronto.ca to coordinate another time.

Chem Eng 8-Ball Shootout

CEGSA is hosting the 1st ever Chem Eng 8-Ball Shootout at the Annex Billiards Club (507 Bloor St W) on Wednesday, June 11. Our very own Master's student Sam Huang is one of the top players in the city, and will give a brief lesson on the basics of pool. Check out Sam's amazing skills in his YouTube video! Sam's lesson will start at 5:30 pm, the tournament will start around 6pm.

All skill levels are welcome and there is no cost to play in the tournament; however, a $5 deposit is required and will be returned to you at the event. There will be prizes (details coming soon)! To register, email Sam at xianmenghuang@gmail.com with your name, email and phone number, and your partner's name, if you have one. Once registered, please find Sam in WB321 and give him the $5 deposit.
