Molly Shoichet elected to Royal Society

University Professor Molly Shoichet has been elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society, the U.K.’s national academy of sciences. The organization is the world’s oldest scientific academy, and one of its most prestigious. Read more.

Chem-E CarUTCV places 6th at AIChE Student Conference

On Sunday, March 31, the University of Toronto Chemical Vehicles (UTCV) design team competed in the 2019 Chem-E Car Competition at the Eckhardt Northeast Regional AIChE Student Conference, which took place at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. This is the second year that UTCV has participated in the competition and made the top 10! Last year, the team placed 9th. This year, the team placed 6th out of 14 teams. Congratulations to our students!

Three ChemE students receive prestigious Cressy Awards for outstanding leadership

Three ChemE students were presented with 2019 Gordon Cressy Student Leadership Awards on Monday, April 22: Locke Davenport Huyer (IBBME/ChemE PhD 1T9), Molly Gorman (ChemE 1T8 + PEY), and Rosten Role (ChemE 1T8 + PEY). The students were recognized for their outstanding extra-curricular contributions to the Department of Chemical Engineering & Applied Chemistry, U of T Engineering, and to the University community as a whole. Reminder: Safety Training for 2019 Summer Students

The Safety Training for 2019 Summer Students will take place on Wednesday, May 1 from 9:30am to 12pm in WB116. Professors, if you haven’t already done so, please remember to email the names of your students who will be attending the session to rodney.gensell@utoronto.ca no later than Monday, April 29. In your email, indicate next to each student if he/she is a summer student, grad student or the name of the position. Note: In-Person Examinations will take place on Wednesday, May 8 from 9am to 11am in WB116.

CIC Toronto Career Fair on Fri, May 3

Grad students interested in finding a job, don’t miss out on the Chemical Institute of Canada (CIC) Career Fair taking place on Friday, May 3 from 8:30am to 4:30pm in the Earth Sciences Centre located at 22 Russell Street. If you plan to attend, you must register here! You can also sign-up for on-site interviews. The deadline to sign-up for interviews is both today and tomorrow (depends on company). CEGSA Semi-Formal: Free tickets for faculty/staff!

CEGSA is hosting its annual Semi-Formal on Friday, June 7 at the Fifth Grill and Terrace located at 225 Richmond Street West. This year it’s a Speakeasy theme. Festivities will begin at 6pm. The department has purchased 10 tickets for faculty/staff, which will be given out on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you are interested in claiming one of these tickets, email jennifer.hsu@utoronto.ca as soon as possible! Tickets for guests are $50/person.
