ChemE Student Recognized with Cressy Award

 

Bo Zhang Bo Zhang (ChemE 1T4)

Congratulations to 4th year students Bo Zhang for being one of this year's recipients of the Gordon Cressy Student Leadership Awards, which recognize graduating students for outstanding contributions to improving the world around them and inspiring others to do the same. Since honing his skills with the Leaders of Tomorrow (LOT) program, Bo has lead a variety of professional development clubs and organizations, including roles as president of the Engineering Athletics Association (EAA) and chair of the Canadian Society of Chemical Engineering (CSChE) U of T Chapter. He also established the Engineering Basketball League.

The awards were presented at a ceremony last night in Convocation Hall, which also marked the 20th anniversary of the awards.

Please be as specific as possible in your reasons for nomination and include a short description of how this researcher has influenced his/her field, as this information can be elucidated only by a researcher already familiar with the nominee’s field. Please also include a copy of the nominee’s CV, and a list of his/her recent and most significant publications.

Please note that, by putting forth a nomination, you are agreeing to host the lecturer. A list of hosting duties can be obtained from Cecilia.

2014 Summer Safety Training Schedule

Part I: In-Person training , Monday, May 5, 2014, 9:30 to 11:30 am, BA-1160
Part II: On-line training (to be completed prior to the in-person exam)
Part III: In-Person Examination, Thursday, May 8, 2014, 10:00 to 10:30 am, WB-116

The training is compulsory for all summer students/personnel, including those in volunteer positions and on co-op placements.

ILead ChemE Summer Program

ILead ChemE Summer Program is a learning initiative program for students to learn about leadership through the process of self-discovery and team-building. If you have any students in your labs or offices who would be interested in joining us once a week, please feel free to have them attend the 1st session, Friday, May 9 or contact Cecilia in WB 218 for more details.

Spring Convocation is Coming - Save the Date!

The Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry will celebrate the convocation of our graduate and undergraduate students in the morning of Wednesday, June 18. May 15 - 16, 2014 - 16th Regional CSChE Ontario-Quebec Biotechnology Meeting (OQBM). Early bird registration for this student-focused meeting ends on April 15. The abstract submission deadline is April 24.

May 19, 2014 - Victoria Day: The university will be closed.

May 28 - June 1, 2014 - Spring Reunion: If you graduated in a year ending in 9 or 4, visit the U of T Spring Reunion website to plan your visit and register for events, including the ChemE Lunch and Tour on Saturday, May 31. We hope to see you there!
