IT News

  • A bug in iOS6.1 allows unauthorized users to bypass the iPhone lock screen and access your data. Apple is expected to release a software update to patch this flaw. If you have an iPhone 4S, Apple has released iOS 6.1.1 to fix issues users are experiencing with 3G.
  • Adobe has recommended a workaround to temporarily protect users against a new critical vulnerability in Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat. The vulnerability is already being exploited—Adobe recommends that any users running Adobe Reader XI or later under Windows should enable Protected View (File -> Edit -> Preferences -> Security (Enhanced) ) for "Files from potentially unsafe locations." For users running older versions of Adobe, or using Adobe on non-Windows operating systems, resort to using another PDF viewer (Preview, FoxIt Reader, etc.) or only open PDF files from sources you trust.
  • Looking to upgrade to Office 2013? Note that while previous editions of Office would allow you to transfer the license from one computer to another (provided you uninstalled Office on the old computer first), Office 2013 locks the license to the computer it is installed on. This means that if your computer dies or you replace it with a new computer, you would need to purchase a new license of Office 2013.
