Levente DiosadyChemE prof elected Fellow of Engineers Canada

Professor Levente Diosady was recently elected a Fellow of Engineers Canada for his 10+ years of volunteer service to Professional Engineers Ontario committees. Professor Diosady sits on the subcommittee that designates consulting engineers, and belonged to committees that defined bioengineering for APEO and the bioengineering curricula defined by the Accreditation Board.

Diesel trains may expose passengers to exhaust

Measurements taken by U of T Engineering researchers from the Southern Ontario Centre for Atmospheric Aerosol Research (SOCAAR) show that levels of certain airborne particles can be up to nine times higher in train cars pulled by diesel locomotives than on busy city streets. Read full story.

ChemE grad student scores big in chess

Four U of T teams, supported by the Hart House Club, participated in the Canadian University Chess Championship (CUCC) at Western University earlier this year. The competition attracted about 100 students from nine universities, including Brock, McGill, McMaster, Carleton and Queen’s. Sowjanya Sowrirajan, a ChemE MEng student, particpated in one of the U of T teams. Her team won second place in the reserves section, just missing first place after a tiebreaking game against McMaster. Read full story.

REMINDER: Upcoming CEGSA events

CESGA will be hosting a Games Night in the grad common room (WB247) on Wednesday, February 15 starting at 5:30pm. Free pizza will be served. All are welcome.

CEGSA will also be hosting a Career Workshop on Thursday, February 23 from 12-2pm in WB116. This event is specific to grad students and open to all grad students across the Faculty.
