Greg Evans critiques Fraser Institute report on Ontario’s coal phase-out

Policy makers should be wary of a new Fraser Institute report released Tuesday that concludes the phase-out of coal in Ontario did little to reduce air pollution. “I find the report rather disappointing,” said SOCAAR Director Greg Evans. The authors took a “simplistic” approach to examining a “fairly complicated” system, he said, adding the results are “flawed.” Read the full story in iPolitics (membership required).

Inviting all profs to the class of 0T7 reunion on Fri, Mar 3

The class of 0T7 will be hosting a get-together at SUDS on Friday, March 3 at 6pm. Professors from all disciplines are invited to join them for drinks. Upcoming CEGSA events

You are invited to join CEGSA for skating at Nathan Phillips Square on Thursday, January 26. The group will be departing from the grad common room at 5:30pm. If you don't have skates, bring cash for skate rental ($10/2hrs). If you have skates but need them sharpened, the cost is $8.

CEGSA will be hosting its second career workshop on Thursday, February 23 from 12-2pm in WB116. This event is specific to grad students and open to all grad students across the Faculty.

CAFE Design Expo

The Canadian Association of Food Engineers (CAFE), a student club, will be hosting its annual Food Design Expo, where a team of students will present their food-related project ideas to judges/mentors from the food industry and academia. CAFE is still looking for members from the food industry and academia to participate as judges/mentors. For more information on how to get involved, please contact Katherine Chen as soon as possible. She can be reached at katherineyuxin.chen@mail.utoronto.ca. The program is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, February 1.

The University of Toronto's Sustainable Engineer's Association (SEA) is hosting its annual University of Toronto Sustainability Conference under the theme From Policy to Practice. The conference will be held on Saturday, January 28 from 9am to 5:30pm at the Enercare Centre, and will showcase how various sustainable projects, ventures and policies are currently being applied within industry practice.
